The Sweeney is a British film loosely based on the 1976 TV series: The Sweeney. The film follows the actions of Detective Jack Regan, played by Ray Winstone, in trying to catch the orchestrator of an armed robbery of a bank and jeweller’s in London.
Ray Winstone is just always amazing in these sort of films, and he was here too. This film’s story was extremely interesting, and all of the action and special effects were just right for the sort of film it is.
I enjoyed all of the mystery surrounding the armed robbery and what it was for, as well as how Jack Regan was desperately trying to keep his detective work old school, Gene Hunt-style, in the face of the snobbish superintendent and board of directors.
Overall, this gets a 7.7 because it was a very interesting story, with really cool effects and fighting, however at points it did seem just a little too strange for a modern detective/police story.
