Mars Attacks! is an American film about the people of the USA, and how they try to prevent the Earth from being invaded by ruthless and brutal, yet humorous Martians.
This film was absolutely ridiculous! The whole idea of these sarcastic Martians invading Earth for a bit of a laugh was just totally farcical, as was this whole film, being extremely stupid and over the top all the way through.
Of course, that’s stupid and over the top in both a good and a bad way, because the way in which this was presented as a sort of 1960s sci-fi film, being completely preposterous was very funny in my opinion, and along with that whole story, the jokes weren’t actually that bad either.
However, this was also incredibly annoying to watch. The supposed Martian language was mainly irritating in my view, as it consisted of one or two quacking sounds that just became boring to hear over and over again.
Also, the CGI was really poor. Now, whether that was due to the fact that this film’s budget was not too large (however I think $100 million is pretty good), the CGI capabilities were not as great in 1996, or the director was going for this unrealistic image, I don’t know, but I did find it annoying to watch, so due to that, I’ll be giving this a 6.9.
