Starter For 10 is a British film about a new university student whose dream is to appear on University Challenge, and it comes true, however he can still not be truly happy, as he must find out how to work out women, and potentially be with one of the girls he has fallen in love with.
Now, I must say that this film had two VERY separate sides to it. On the one side, there was the story of University Challenge, and accomplishing the dream, which I found perfectly interesting, and it was fine alone.
However, on the other side, the story of the boy’s romance with two of the girls that he has met at uni was not interesting at all. The way that it was presented was very irritating in my opinion, and I struggled to watch the film when things came to this side of the story.
In terms of the comedic aspect of the film, it wasn’t the greatest. Some of the more farcical elements of the film were a lot funnier, but the majority of the jokes weren’t that great, so it ended up just being a really boring film to watch, and along with the split storyline, I felt it was difficult to concentrate well on this film, so that’s why I’ll give it a 5.7…
