Gangster Squad is an American film about the days of mob boss Mickey Cohen’s rule over Los Angeles in 1949, and the L.A.P.D.’s plans to create an elite team of detectives to bring down Cohen and restore peace to the city of LA.
This is a pretty similar story to LA Confidential, surrounding Mickey Cohen’s tyranny in LA, however rather than being as good a story as that film, this was all about action and excitement.
Never have I seen a gangster film with so much fighting and action in it, but this was fantastic, and although the story was pretty weak (while I’m still trying to figure out whether it is completely a true story or not), all of the bloodshed and violence made up for it greatly.
Also, this film had a great ending sequence to it. Starting with a ten-minute long shootout at a hotel in LA, it finished with an exhilarating chase and fight scene, and it was surprising to me how exciting it actually was, even though I was still not really into the story at all.
Overall, I’ll give this 7.5, because if you’re looking for a film with a good story, this isn’t the one to watch, but if you’re an action lover, this is for you!
