When Will We Get A Rogue One Trailer?

    0
By The Mad Movie Man on January 25, 2016 Feature, Star Wars, The Big Questions

The pop culture juggernaut that is The Force Awakens is now beginning to slow, so what better time to reignite the Star Wars train than now? So, let’s look ahead to the next instalment in the saga and ask: when will we get a Rogue One trailer?

    Rogue OneWhen is it coming?

Star Wars: The Force Awakens was released about five weeks ago now, but it’s stopped topping the box office, and general conversation in the movie world has moved onto the big events of 2016, namely DC and Marvel’s newest superhero movies.

However, we can’t forget that there’s another Star Wars movie coming out this year, and that’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, released on December 16, 2016.

That’s now eleven months away, but bear in mind that the first teaser for The Force Awakens was released almost thirteen months before its eventual release, so how come we haven’t got one for Rogue One yet, and when will it eventually be released?

    Most likely release date

In Hollywood, big blockbuster movie trailers are generally ‘paired’ with a current release. For example, the Star Trek Beyond trailer, released on December 14, 2015, was paired with the release of The Force Awakens, in order to get maximum exposure to the widest audience.

So, the most likely possibility is that Disney, who own Lucasfilm and Marvel, will pair the Rogue One trailer with the release of Captain America: Civil War. That film is set to be released in the US on May 6, but in the UK on April 29, and even in some European countries on April 27. Therefore, it’s pretty likely that we’ll get at least a teaser before that, which should be around mid-April, which also coincides with the DVD/Blu-Ray release of The Force Awakens.

What kind of trailer will it be?

All we’ve had with regards to Rogue One is a ten-second teaser from 2014 that showed a forest and the Death Star on the horizon (footage which is not going to be in the movie), and that picture of Felicity Jones and crew that I’ve been abusing for ages.

What’s more is that the trailer we should be getting in mid-April will likely only be a teaser, and not a full-scale trailer like the recent Suicide Squad release. Of course, the marketing for The Force Awakens was absolutely perfect in not revealing any plot details, and so I do hope that Rogue One will do the same, however it’s most likely that this first trailer will only be a one and a half minute teaser, much like Episode VII’s second trailer with that iconic ‘Chewie, we’re home.’ reveal.

It’s almost certain that we won’t get a full trailer until July 17. Why then? That’s the final day of this year’s Star Wars Celebration event, and, as they did last year, a new trailer will pretty much definitely be released for Rogue One, and with only 5 months until release, it should be a much bigger one.

So, there you go, just wait until April for a taste of Rogue One, July for a bigger insight, and then December for the full movie! Meanwhile, why don’t you just go and see The Force Awakens again; it’s still in cinemas, and you know you loved it.

UPDATE: We got it on April 7th, so not too far off…
