Chronicle is an American film about three friends who, after finding a secret cavern underground, develop their own superpowers. However, after their initial larks with their new-found abilities, things begin to go out of control when they use their powers for more sinister things.
Well, this film was fascinating. I’ll start off with the initial stages of the film, which seemed relatively entertaining to me, as it centered around a very relatable topic, which is simply what normal people would do if they had superpowers, and the obvious answer to that is have a laugh with them, so that was an interesting and enjoyable thing to watch.
However, the story just didn’t feel really gripping until it really started to get going, and by that I mean when things in this film started to go wrong.
Completely out of the blue, the story turned from fun and enjoyable to extremely dark and violent. I found the final stages of the film to be massively intriguing and exciting to watch, as the whole thing became completely out of control and unpredictable, however it was also quite distressing and frankly scary to watch literally hundreds of people get killed in a very gory way in the space of half an hour or so.
So, overall, I’ll give this an 8.1, because it was a very original and fascinating film to watch, despite being extremely violent towards the end.
