Three Kings is an American film about 4 US soldiers who set out to find gold stolen from Kuwait by Iraq at the end of The First Gulf War, however in order to find it, they must enlist the help of the Iraqi civilians.
I found this film quite frustrating to watch. As a whole, it had numerous different moods and feelings throughout, as it started off as quite a witty and satirical comedy, before moving into a more black sort of comedy, and by the end it was just a normal dramatic war story.
Having said that, when a film covers a topic as serious and potentially sensitive as this war, I understand how difficult it is to make an entertaining comedy about the subject, however this film’s attempts were still relatively frustrating.
On the more dramatic side, in terms of the story, I thought it was actually quite weak. The film didn’t really grab me at any point, as the story was just a little too predictable throughout up until the end, however the climax was the one part that did grab me, as if it covered a fascinating area of the rules of war that is not too well-documented by Western powers, so that was definitely a nice thing.
Overall, I’ll give this a 6.9 because although it was not necessarily the most interesting or even easy film to watch, it was still quite entertaining and clever.
