Volver is a Spanish film about a woman whose mother returns to her hometown after her supposed death, so that she can fix all of the problems that she has had in her life before.
This was a very interesting film. I’ve heard that Almodóvar is a great director, but includes subtle touches that only Spaniards can understand, so I may have missed out on some of those, but this film was still pretty good.
The story was quite bizarre in my opinion, as there were a few, perhaps too many twists and turns in the plot, with many different parts of the storyline being left alone for too long and then popping back up, making it often quite confusing to watch.
The film still had a great blend of comedy and drama to keep my intrigue throughout, and along with some fascinating characters performed brilliantly by the main actresses, this was mostly a very gripping film to watch.
Overall, though, I’ll give this a 7.1, because although it had a partly confusing storyline, and was extremely strange, it was still very interesting and original to watch.
