This Is 40 is an American film about a married couple whose relationship and life is on the brink of falling apart as they are turning 40, as their jobs are unsuccessful, their children are a nuisance, and they are beginning to get on each other’s nerves.
Why is this film over 2 hours long? It was ridiculous, the film could have been shortened by at least 25 minutes, and then it wouldn’t have been as boring. In terms of the comedic value of the film, it wasn’t the greatest, but it was still good enough to keep my attention throughout.
There were definitely some very long-winded and overly drawn out sequences that weren’t at all funny, and too boring to watch, which added heavily to the 2 hour plus running time.
Also, instead of being a normal comedy that was funny all the way through, this film was very serious and by the end quite depressing to watch, as it was trying to be as realistic as possible to show the emotions felt by the main characters as their relationship was on the ropes.
Overall, I’ll give this 6.2 because it was funny and entertaining to watch for the most part, but it was too long for a comedy and also too realistic and depressing for this type of film in my opinion.
