The Departed is an American film about an undercover police officer in a Boston mafia gang, and a mole from the gang in the police service who both try to track down one another before they are found out by their respective organisations.
This film is complicated. It’s the story of intertwining lines of deception and betrayal, which is an extremely confusing thing to follow at times, however it is an extremely well-written, well-acted story that is absolutely thrilling to watch.
The story of this film was amazing to follow, if not very confusing, but it was a delight to watch this film. As well as this, I found all of the written characters fascinating, with their underlying deception and everything else, and I was blown away by the performance that Jack Nicholson gave in this film. He played the character of Frank Costello so well, and made him so evil, that I actually felt scared of him at some parts of the movie.
This film was also brilliant because of the way it managed to continually surprise me throughout, as it just came with countless unexpected plot twists, that changed my whole outlook on the story at every point, making for an incredibly exciting climax to the film.
Overall, I’ll give this 8.2 because it was a brilliant film to watch, with one of the most exciting and unpredictable stories I have ever seen, along with great characters performed brilliantly by all the actors.
