The Happening is an American film about the events after an airborne disease in New York causes numerous people around the city to kill themselves in very gruesome ways, and after a man, his wife and a girl escape together, they must do whatever possible to survive.

This was definitely a cool idea for a thriller film, and the initial stages of the film were actually very promising, however for some reason, the story began to tail off once the unexplained events started to occur, making this a very frustrating and confusing story to follow.

Also, I was very confused by the choice of actors for this film. I know Mark Wahlberg does some dramas, but he’s best as a comedy actor in my opinion, so coupled with Zooey Deschanel, who only does comedies (I think…), I was thinking that this film was slightly comedic for major parts of this film, pulling me away from the real drama of the story.

Overall, this film was pretty poor. Although it had a cool concept, and was initially promising, it ended up with a boring and frustrating story, as it was very disjointed throughout the entire film, so that’s why I’ll give it a 5.4.
