Dan In Real Life is an American film about a widower who takes his 3 daughters to a family retreat in Rhode Island, and after thinking that he meets someone special, he discovers that the woman that he has fallen in love with is actually his brother’s girlfriend.
What a film! This was the perfect combination of fantastically hilarious comedy, a brilliant story, great performances from all of the actors and actresses, and overall just a very very enjoyable film to watch.
This was probably the role that Steve Carell was born to play. Although he can play the brain-dead idiot very well, he can also play the middle-aged, partly depressed yet desiring man extremely well, and with his fantastic acting, this film was just so funny and convincing that it was a great pleasure for me to watch it.
Normally, you don’t get a great story in comedy films, it’s usually complete farce and non-sensical rubbish. However, this film was different. The story was engrossing to follow, and I was utterly intrigued by what the outcome would be right until the bitter end…
In this film, you’ve also got some of the best comedy writing that I’ve ever seen. The jokes were all absolutely hilarious, all of the characters were actually completely over-the-top, especially the teenage daughter Cara, and for all of those reasons, this film gets a 9.5 from me.
