The Beach is an American film about a young man, Richard, who along with two others, goes to find a secret island off the coast of Bangkok. where he encounters a secret civilisation of previous holidaymakers.
This film was basically just Lord of The Flies with adults, which I think sort of takes the sting out of it a little. Obviously, the idea is very clever and intriguing, how it changes from a utopia to a hell, but I feel as if it was not expressed enough in the movie.
One of my favourite directors, Danny Boyle, and one of my favourite actors, Leonardo DiCaprio, are the main talents in this film, and yet, I didn’t feel as if it was as striking as other perfomances I had seen from the two.
Overall, this gets a 6.8 because it is a story that is not too overdone, but it was a bit boring throughout, and there was no real sense of peril towards the end…
